Phoca Gallery is an image gallery with slideshow and a lot of features (PicLens, Categories, Upload, Geotagging, Modal box view, Standard Popup window view, Highslide JS, Shadowbox, overlib effect, access rights, download link, shop link, etc, ...) It uses either a java or flash uploader for adding multiple images, although I was only able to get the java uploader to work. Here is an example of the component that lists the categories from the front page.
